A Preschool Dress from a Japanese Pattern Book

I still have a major ghrá for Japanese Sewing Books, and there are a few nice patterns in this one. I debated about this dress on the cover for a while,

mostly because it looked like it was going to use loads of fabric.

Then I found this ladybird corduroy and I knew I needed a straightforward pattern, where I wouldn't have to fussy-cut all around the ladybirds.
This turned out to be a simple pattern, which looks like it takes more effort that it does.
I sewed the pattern slightly differently from the instructions to reduce the amount of handsewing, and again put pockets in the side seam.

I love the shape of this dress, probably my favourite because of being so easy to sew.

Needless to say, she loves it too!

  1. Lovely dress...I made an Oliver + S pattern which is quite similar. I love this style on little girls. The fabric is lovely too.

  2. Thanks Millie. The bubble shape makes a very girly dress alright. Your 2 O+S dresses are gorgeous on the twins.
